The steady drizzle today couldn't keep the Portland Urban Sketchers down. We met in a bakery in the Pearl district, then dispersed to sketch, gathering later at a pub for lunch. At least some of us dispersed...the bakery was warm and dry, with free refills on coffee, so why get wet? I spent a cozy morning gazing out the window, sketchbook and pen in hand.

Great drawing, and composition, with the lampost standing out neatly against the background - great effect! And all this, without getting wet - well done ; ) !
ReplyDeletei really like this. nice job in capturing a wet portland feel.
ReplyDeleteYou've captured the cold damp winter feeling so well in this sketch. Well done.
ReplyDeleteLove the contrast between the light post and the background.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kazumiwannabe, evensketchier, Sue and Sandra! Since I live in the PNW, I have lots of opportunity to sketch rainy scenes!:-)
ReplyDeleteI like the way you painted the background and brought the lampost out. Good job you were warm and dry!
ReplyDeleteReally excellent sketch! I love the effect of not doing a pre-drawing for the background, which makes the foreground stand out so much! And I love what you wrote; it made me laugh as that is SO my attitude!
ReplyDeleteThere is a moody quality to this sketch that I just love.
ReplyDeleteGreat job! love the soft background vs. the crisp lamppost.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy, Raena, Donna and ffyrebird--I appreciate your comments!
ReplyDeleteFantastic snapshot, and really nice angle. Great use of tone too!
ReplyDeleteWhy do I love gloomy weather so much? Why do I think that it's so romantic? :Þ
Thanks Alex! I agree, there is something cozy and romantic about gloomy weather--its great weather for snuggling! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI really like this Janene - I'm going to find a sketchcrawl group nearby if I can (or start one!). I love the detail on the lamps - isn't it great how drawing makes you notice things you would otherwise have passed by?
